The origins of Faber-Castell date back to 1761, when the carpenter Kaspar Faber, who had been involved in the production of pencils for several years, became independent. Pencils from this production became the first branded writing instruments. In 1851, the company developed a standard for the length, diameter and hardness of the pencil.
